What do we mean by “character education?”
A person’s character is made up of two components: Relationship Character includes traits such as respect, fairness, kindness and honesty, which are traits that build successful relationships. Personal Character includes traits such as self-initiative, self-discipline, perseverance and teamwork which enable individuals to do their best academic work and achieve important life skills that result in reaching their full potential.
Why character education at Vestal?
The purpose of character education is not only to reduce negative behaviors that hurt our children and hurt society, but to also prepare young people for a flourishing and fulfilling life.
The Vestal Central School District recognizes the importance of helping our students build a foundation of good character, and plans are in progress to accomplish the following K - 12 goal: Create a culture of equity, excellence and ethics where students grow to their full potential; academically, socially and emotionally by continuing and reinforcing current character education programs and initiatives.
Involvement of ALL stakeholders: students, parents, teachers, administrators, staff and counselors is key to achieving a culture of ethics and excellence in this district.
