The Vestal Board of Education is seeking a highly qualified educational leader to fill the position of Superintendent of Schools. The search process will be conducted over the coming months with the successful candidate beginning employment on July 1, 2016. This vacancy is due to the retirement of the previous superintendent, Mark LaRoach, at the end of December 2015.
As the search process progresses, the Vestal Board of Education is interested in soliciting feedback from the community. It is looking for parents and community members who are interested in serving on a community interview committee which will assist in vetting final candidates in April. Members of the community interview committee must commit to attending a workshop scheduled for 4 p.m., April 5, 2016, and also all three finalist interviews on April 11, 12 and 13 at 4:15 p.m. Those parents and community members who would like to help select the next Superintendent of Schools and can make a full commitment to attending the workshop and all three finalist interview sessions should notify District Clerk Kay Ellis no later than February 19, 2016. The Vestal Board of Education has engaged the consulting firm of Castallo and Silky to assist with the superintendent search process. Mr. Alan Pole will be working directly with the Board as well as five interview committees, including the community interview committee. In its meetings with Mr. Pole, the Board has established the interview process as well as the recruiting and interview timeline. Teachers, administrators, support staff, paraprofessionals and the community will all provide input during this process.
The advertising and recruiting for the new superintendent is under way with February 12, 2016, being the final date for receiving application packets. On March 17, the Board of Education will select candidates to be interviewed.
