Vestal Golden Bear Sydney Melfi, daughter of Paul and Donna Melfi of Vestal, will continue wearing the green and gold into her college career. She signed her letter of intent to play field hockey with the Division I University of Vermont Catamounts. The signing took place at 3 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, in the lobby of the Vestal High School, 205 Woodlawn Drive, Vestal.
A two-time First Team Section IV All Star and part of the Section IV Championship team in 2014, 2015 and 2016, Melfi was selected for the 2015 Junior Olympics. She also represented Vestal in the 2014 NYSPHSAA State Semi-finals and was selected for the Section IV Second Team in 2014. In addition, she has spent one year on the track with the Golden Bears Track & Field team. Out of school, she teams up with the Southern Tier Storm field hockey club.
Academically, Melfi scores high as a three-year Honor Roll student and two-year Scholar Athlete recipient. A member of Vestal High School’s Mock Trial team, she plans to major in Law/Political Science at the University of Vermont.
