Kyle Kulp signs letter of intent with UMBC

Congratulations to Kyle Kulp, son of Barbara and Bob Kulp of Vestal, who signed his letter of intent to accept a golf scholarship from Division I UMBC. The signing took place at 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, in the lobby of the Vestal High School, as family, friends and teammates cheered him on.

A National All-American for indoor track, Kulp was also selected for the Section IV All-Star team for both indoor and outdoor track, and the Section IV First Team All-Conference All-Star in outdoor track. Kulp holds records for sprint medley, shuttle hurdle medley, 4 x 2 and 4 x 4 indoors. Before he joined the Golden Bears track & field team, he played lacrosse as part of local travel clubs. Kulp also is a four-year varsity cross country runner for the Golden Bears.

Off the track, he is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Government, Peace Club, Varsity Club and is the Class of 2015’s vice president. He has also been a four-year Scholar Athlete and has mentored incoming Vestal High School freshmen during his junior and senior years. In the community, Kulp volunteers with the Special Olympics, Broome-Tioga BOCES and his church, St. Vincent DePaul. As a member of the Triple Cities Runners Club, he has participated in many local fundraisers including the Chris Thater Memorial and the American Heart Association. In addition to running track, Kulp intends to major in Biology at the University of Maryland.
