Many
school districts in the area, including Vestal, have been dealing with the
unprecedented heat and humidity that has gripped our area over the past two
months. Specifically, we have encountered some visible mold on surfaces such as
area rugs, cardboard and cloth materials at Glenwood and Tioga Hills Elementary
Schools.
These items were removed and disposed of, and the affected spaces thoroughly cleaned with an approved, environmentally friendly cleanser. Air-quality testing and spore sampling have been conducted by a Certified Industrial Hygienist. Subsequent testing results indicate that our cleaning efforts have been effective and successful.
Our
staff and parents have been updated on the process and outcome. Maintaining a
safe environment for our students and staff is a critical priority for the
Vestal Central School District. Our administration, facilities and operations
staff and Broome-Tioga BOCES Health and Safety Specialist have worked in
concert to eradicate this concern.
