The
Vestal Hall of Fame Committee is pleased to announce the following candidates
for induction into the 2019 Vestal Hall of Fame. They will be honored at the
induction dinner/ceremony on Wednesday, May
1, 2019. Social hour begins at 5 p.m., with dinner served at 6 p.m. The Hall of
Fame Induction Ceremony will immediately follow dinner.
Mr.
Jared Campbell - Class of 2001
Despite being named “Top Independent Musician” by Billboard magazine and opening for legendary musicians such as the Zac Brown Band and Jason Mraz, Jared Campbell’s favorite venue is usually a public school cafeteria or gym. For the last decade, he has presented his interactive live concert to students from his hometown of Vestal to schools across the country. He uses his music to deliver life lessons to children at their level.
Dr. Raia (Pixton) Hadsell - Class of 1990
A senior research scientist at DeepMind, Dr. Raia (Pixton) Hadsell is a role model for women in technology. In 2017, she was recognized as one of Robohub’s “25 Women in Robotics.” One of her passions is to encourage young women to choose curricula that will lead to careers in math and technology and, to that end, she sits on the executive board of the organization Women in Machine Learning.
Professor Emeritus Theadora (Benzelewksi) Prettyman, Class of 1961
Decades before her time, Thea Prettyman saw the need for technology in the classroom, and helped develop Computer Science courses for the college she served. Beginning her career as a computer programmer for IBM, where she worked on NASA’s satellite program, Thea went on to become Dean of the Mathematics and Science Division at Essex Community College. In 2007, she retired with the prestigious title of Professor Emeritus.
