Vestal Central School District’s Music Department is pleased to announce that three Vestal High School students have been selected by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) for its All-State Conference. In addition, another three students were selected to the New York State Band Directors Association (NYSBDA) Honor Band.
Seniors Emma Goldberg (double bass), Abigail Sprague (voice) and Shruti Venkatesh (voice) were accepted to the NYSSMA All-State in December.
Selected for the NYSBDA Honor Band were senior Anna Bishop (clarinet), sophomore Michael Chernova (flute) and junior Sophie Coker (trumpet).
All auditions and performances were virtual this year. Also conducted online this year were the New York State Field Band Conference (NYSFBC) competitions for individual and ensemble performance, and a number of Vestal Marching Band musicians earned top-three honors, including
- Anna Bishop - first place in Advanced Clarinet.
- Tabitha Briggs, Sophie Coker, Sophia Dando and Emma Goldberg – first place in Intermediate Mixed Ensemble.
- Sophia Dando, Meghan Eames and Katelyn Sonnen - first place in Intermediate Woodwind Ensemble.
- Sophie Coker and Ashley Mihalko – first place in Advanced Brass Duet.
- Hannah Goldberg and Daksh Mehta – first place in Advanced Percussion Front-Ensemble Duet.
- Jordyn Goldberg and Mia Perfetti – first place in Advanced Visual Duet.
- Emmaline Milkovich – first place in Intermediate Trombone.
- Cara Miller – first place in Intermediate Oboe.
- Teresa Pyo and Grace Yoon – first place in Intermediate Visual Duet.
- Kara Dhakal – second place in Advanced Flag.
- Emma Goldberg – second place in Advanced Euphonium.
- Rocio Guay – second place in Advanced Trombone.
- Lily Cardone and Arianna Condie – second place in Intermediate Visual Duet.
