Seniors in IB Program devote a Day of Service

Seniors in Vestal High School's International Baccalaureate classes scheduled a Day of Service at the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse and The Discovery Center on May 29, 2019. Groups of Vestal HIgh School seniors planted flowers, painted tables, shoveled mulch (and compost!) to help get The Discovery Center ready for a new season.

Another group of IB students volunteered at the CHOW Warehouse, where they helped sort and pack food received from the recent Post Office Food Drive in Broome County. Over 53,000 pounds of food was donated by the community, and our students packed 432 Summer Meal Boxes, which equates to 8,640 meals.

Last summer, CHOW distributed 30,000 meals to children who needed them in our area. "We hope to distribute 35,000 meals this summer," said CHOW Director Jack Seman. "The students will be a big part of helping us reach that goal."

Added Jessica Iacovelli, volunteer coordinator for CHOW, "We would not be able to do what we do without volunteers."
