The District has implemented proactive measures for climate-driven environmental issues impacting some of our buildings. In addition to custodial staff following new cleaning protocols, air-handling systems are running daily in all buildings to maintain optimal air circulation. Dehumidifiers and air purifiers are deployed in rooms where high humidity has caused issues in the past, and custodial staff are performing frequent inspections as they watch for potential issues.
In mid-July, during an extended stretch of hot, humid weather, a small area of mold was found in two classrooms at Tioga Hills, one classroom at Glenwood, and a bathroom at Vestal High School. These areas were immediately and thoroughly cleaned, and no further mold has been observed in District buildings since these findings. Inspections of all areas of our buildings will continue until the high humidity comes to an end.
