Rock On Heroes!

There are many Vestal Staff working behind the scenes during this unprecedented school closure, and we are proud of them all! We’ve highlighted our school bus drivers and school resource officers delivering laptops to our families who need them to support their continuity of learning.

Our other unsung heroes are the dedicated members of our Vestal Food Services staff. On April 22, we caught up with the teams working at African Road and Clayton Avenue elementary schools to prepare, package and distribute "Grab & Go" meals for students who need them. Vestal School Lunch Supervisor Erin Polovchak shared that over 25,600 meals have been distributed to children to date (between March 16 and April 17).

Thanks to Laurie Anderson, Anna Bronikowski, Christine Clapper, Diana Hinds, Kim Lainhart, Dina Mullen, Ingrid Peters, Deb Peterson, Erin Polovchak, Carol Pooler, Carol Potter, Sue Schneider, Dorothy Smith, Nirmal Sodhi, Pat Streeter, Debbie Tompkins, Pat Wiggins and Hillary Yarosh, who continue to nurture our students with breakfast and lunch meals while they are at home.

In addition to the Grab & Go meals distributed through Food Services, every two weeks Principal Ann Loose and her team at Vestal Middle School have been collecting food and assembling meal kits for 42 families through the VMS Vacation PowerPack program. Vestal Middle School staff and families support this program with food and monetary donations year round. Coordinated by Darren Herman, Grade 6 English language arts teacher, staff volunteers packed and distributed the food boxes this week.
