The Vestal District Council serves to represent parent organizations and acts as a coordinating body to promote communications and collaboration among its member units. The District Council also provides a channel of communication between parents, teachers, administrators, community members and students.

The organization also sponsors a scholarship through Vestal Dollars for Scholars that is annually awarded to a Vestal student who is planning a career in education. This scholarship is awarded at the District Council Dinner at the end of the school year, and two honorees from each parent group are also honored for their service to the students at each of their schools.

Affiliated with Scholarship America, the Vestal Dollars for Scholars has raised over $1 million in scholarships for graduating Vestal High School seniors since 1991. The scholarships are awarded on Honors Night each year, which is traditionally the first Monday in June.

These grants fund materials and technology to support extra programs for Vestal students. An example includes The Chemistry Magic Show, now permanently funded through the Vestal School Foundation. Past VSF grants have supported the district-wide art gallery, Colonial Soldier presentation at the Vestal Middle School, and the Fall 2015 presentation by celebrated math educator Greg Tang to all five elementary schools.
