After beginning the year building on their reading success in Kindergarten, African Road first-graders have been working on learning snap words, compound words, and other ways to decipher mystery words while they are reading.
To celebrate their good habits for solving hard words, they and their teachers embarked on a mission to the Super-Secret Detective Agency. They read a story with Detective Reads-A-Lot, and then, while they were reading with their partners, they received a very important mission. Using clues to solve the words, they put the words together to reveal a secret message.
As a result of their excellent literacy detecting, they met Sir Bookworm, head of the Super-Secret Detective Agency. They helped him find his missing snap words (taped to the back of his cape) and received some gifts from him... Glasses for close reading, finger flashlights to see their way through a really tough word, and bookmarks so that they will never lose their place in a good book.
