Engineering Day at Broome-Tioga BOCES

Four fifth-grade students, Kason, Noah, Sarisha, and Mason attended the 9th Annual Engineering Day at Broome-Tioga BOCES on November 16, 2023. The team competed to create the best functional Rube Goldberg machine. They were given a box of materials for the project and had about 1 hour 45 minutes to design and complete the machine.

Students were then judged based on their design, the number of steps created, the length of the machine, and whether they were able to knock down all ten pins. The teams design consisted of a pulley, ramp, tunnels, and a funnel. They used a variety of different materials and in the end were able to knock down 7 of the 10 pins.

The group of students collaborated and worked up to the very last second. They exhibited great teamwork, creativity, time management, and communication skills. While the team did not earn bragging rights, they did have lots of fun working together and creating their machine.

Many thanks to Glenwood Math Teacher Wendy Mowry for sharing her photos of this event!
